About citybikewien.at
citybikewien.at is an independent, multilingual guide to cycling in Vienna. We help tourists and locals plan rides with live WienMobil Rad station maps, a directory of rental shops, curated cycling routes, more than 55 in-depth guides, district pages and practical tips—from registration and tariffs to weather and traffic rules. We are not a bike-sharing operator, rental chain or tour agency; we publish editorial information so you can choose the right option for your trip.
Independent travel guide by Johann Diglas. Not affiliated with the former Citybike Wien operator (Gewista / JCDecaux / Bank Austria) or with WienMobil Rad (nextbike / TIER Mobility). For official sharing support, contact the operator directly.
What you will find on this site
Our core tools are built for decision-making before and during your stay. The stations map shows real-time bike and dock availability across Vienna using the public GBFS feed from nextbike. The rentals section maps independent bike shops and hire points sourced from OpenStreetMap, with filters for e-bikes, child seats and city-centre locations.
The routes hub lists curated day rides—from the Donaukanal and Donauinsel to the Ring, Kahlenberg and Heuriger hills—with distance, difficulty and sight notes. The guides index bundles more than 55 articles on WienMobil Rad, pricing, safety, the Donauradweg, family cycling and neighbourhood tips. District pages under /bezirk summarise how each of Vienna's 23 Bezirke feels on two wheels. A cycling weather widget uses Open-Meteo forecasts so you can plan drier windows.
Who runs citybikewien.at
The site is edited and published by Johann Diglas, Vienna. Editorial direction matches our imprint: an independent online guide for bicycle tourism in Vienna, without commercial sales or booking commissions on this domain.
Content is researched from public operator information, open data APIs, on-the-ground checks and feedback from readers. We aim for clear, practical English (and parallel translations) rather than marketing copy—if a tariff changes or a station network shifts, we update the relevant guides and hub pages rather than leaving outdated promises online.
For visitors and Vienna residents
Tourists typically combine short WienMobil Rad trips with one full day on a rented bike for longer loops, or book a guided tour for orientation. Our price comparison and WienMobil Rad guide explain when sharing beats a shop day rate (and vice versa). Residents use the live map for daily availability, district pages for neighbourhood routing and guides on rules, parking and seasonal detours.
Whether you have two hours between meetings or a long weekend, start from the homepage hubs—stations, rentals, routes, guides—or the cycling-in-Vienna pillar for a structured overview.
Data sources, updates and trust
Station availability comes from the official GBFS endpoint published by nextbike for WienMobil Rad. Shop and route geometry rely on OpenStreetMap contributors under ODbL; we do not claim completeness for every hire desk in the region. Weather summaries use the Open-Meteo API. We do not sell personal data or run advertising trackers; see our privacy policy for hosting and analytics details.
Static guides carry visible update notes where facts are time-sensitive (tariffs, app flows). Live map data refreshes automatically. If you spot an error—a closed shop, wrong tariff figure or broken link—email hallo@my-vienna.info or use the contact details in our imprint. We review corrections as quickly as practical but cannot provide emergency or booking support.
The domain and the former Citybike Wien name
Many people still search for "Citybike Wien" or "Citybike Vienna". That was the name of Vienna's earlier municipal bike-sharing system, operated commercially until regular service ended on 31 March 2022. It was replaced by WienMobil Rad (nextbike). We are not Gewista, JCDecaux, Bank Austria or the current operator—we reuse the citybikewien.at domain only as an independent signpost so cyclists land on current information: WienMobil Rad today, plus shops, routes and guides. For a concise summary of the switch, see our WienMobil Rad guide; this About page is about our site, not a history of the old scheme.
Contact and official operator support
Questions about this website, licensing or corrections: hallo@my-vienna.info (also listed in the imprint). Issues with an active rental, payment or damaged bike on WienMobil Rad must go to the operator via the nextbike / WienMobil Rad app and helpline—we cannot unlock bikes or refund rides.

Frequently asked questions
- Is citybikewien.at the official WienMobil Rad or Citybike operator?
- No. We are an independent travel guide. Official bike-sharing support is provided by WienMobil Rad / nextbike, not by this website.
- Who publishes and maintains the content?
- Johann Diglas, Vienna. See the imprint for legal details and hallo@my-vienna.info for editorial contact.
- How often is station data updated?
- The stations map pulls live GBFS data from nextbike; availability changes within minutes as users rent and return bikes.
- Where do rental shop listings come from?
- Primarily from OpenStreetMap and manual verification. Always confirm opening hours and prices with the shop before you visit.
- Why does the site still use the Citybike name in the domain?
- Searchers and old links still use that keyword. The municipal Citybike Wien system ended in March 2022; we explain the successor on our WienMobil Rad guide without claiming to be the former operator.
- What is the best starting point for a short city break?
- Open the stations map for sharing, compare shop day rates in the 2026 price comparison, then pick a route or the cycling-in-Vienna pillar guide for planning.
