This 15 km loop climbs gently from Nussdorf into Vienna's wine villages, linking vineyard lanes, the Beethovengang path and traditional Heuriger taverns where the year's new wine is served.
Route overview
From the river at Nussdorf you ride uphill through Grinzing, looping past vineyard lanes before dropping back via the riverside hamlet of Kahlenbergerdorf.
With about 220 m of climbing over 15 km, it is a moderate ride - the gradients are steady rather than steep, but you will feel the hills on the way up.
Wine and views
Grinzing is the heart of the Heuriger tradition, where family taverns pour their own young wine straight from the surrounding vines.
Higher up, the vineyard terraces open to wide views over the city and the Danube, with the leafy Beethovengang offering a shady contrast.
Tips for the ride
Heuriger opening times vary by season and by tavern, so check ahead and look for the bush of pine branches that signals an open one.
Save the wine for the end of the ride and carry water for the climbs; the descent back to Nussdorf is the easy reward.
