This demanding 20 km ride climbs from Nussdorf through the Vienna Woods to the Kahlenberg at 484 m and neighbouring Leopoldsberg, rewarding the effort with the city's finest panorama over Vienna and the Danube.
Route overview
From Nussdorf the road rises steadily through the wooded slopes of the Wienerwald, gaining about 480 m before topping out at the Kahlenberg.
A short link leads on to the Leopoldsberg summit, after which a fast, flowing descent carries you back down to the starting point.
The climb and the views
This is a steady road climb popular with Vienna's road cyclists, best suited to fit riders or anyone on an e-bike for the long ascent.
At the top the Stefaniewarte viewpoint and a café reward you with sweeping views over the city, the Danube and the vineyards far below.
Tips for the ride
Pace the climb evenly and carry enough water; there are few stops once you leave Nussdorf until the summit café.
Check your brakes before the descent and watch for other cyclists and the occasional bus on the way down.
